Four NLB Group Banks Among the Best Employers in the World

Numbers matter. One such example is the prestigious Top Employer Slovenia certificate, awarded to companies that demonstrate excellence in HR practices and employee development programmes, for the 11th consecutive year. However, what is even more important is what lies behind these numbers. And behind the figure of 11 certifications stands the consistent and strategically driven work of NLB’s HR professionals and partners, dedicated to the development and wellbeing of employees.

With the Top Employer Slovenia certificate, awarded once again by the independent international organisation Top Employers Institute, NLB has reaffirmed its position among the world’s leading employers for the 11th year in a row – and remains the only bank in Slovenia to hold this distinction. Adding further recognition, three other NLB Group banks also received the Top Employer title this year: NLB Komercijalna banka, Belgrade, for the second time, and NLB Banka, Sarajevo and NLB Banka, Banja Luka for the first time.

Work to support the development and wellbeing of employees is never finished. At NLB, we continuously develop our own practices while also adopting best practices from the most reputable global employers. We are proud that our consistent efforts are recognised year after year, and even more so that the international professional community is confirming the excellence of the NLB Group’s HR practices across an increasing number of markets in which our banks operate. Our ambition is to extend these proven and high-quality HR practices to all members of the Group.

As she explains, the banking sector is undergoing profound change, and this dynamic environment presents significant HR challenges. On the one hand, banks must continually enhance the skills and expertise of their employees; on the other, they must constantly seek new talent, often for profiles that are in short supply on the labour market.

At NLB, we have addressed these challenges through a policy of continuous learning, combined with a strong focus on employees’ personal development and a healthy work–life balance. These aspects were highlighted by the Top Employer Institute as particularly important, citing examples such as NLB’s in-house Training Centre with over 50 years of tradition, the integration of AI-related skills, new leadership development programmes, the introduction of additional health insurance (Specialist) for all employees, a psychological counselling programme, and other initiatives.

We are pleased that our efforts are recognised not only by our employees but also by many candidates who wish to work with us, as well as by professional organisations that rank us among the best employers not only in Slovenia, but also more broadly.

About the Top Employer Certification

The Top Employers Institute uses a comprehensive assessment process to evaluate how effectively organisations manage and develop their people. The certification is awarded to companies that provide outstanding working conditions, offer diverse development opportunities at all organisational levels, and continuously strive to improve their HR practices.

In addition to the Top Employer certification, NLB is also proud to hold the Family-Friendly Company certificate, which reflects our commitment to supporting a healthy balance between employees’ professional and private lives. Initiatives such as additional leave for family responsibilities, remote work, and various preventive specialist medical check-ups enable our employees to successfully balance their professional and personal lives and take care of their wellbeing. The combination of both certificates confirms that NLB operates in a supportive and development-oriented working environment.
